Speaker Bio
Jan Fox
Four-Time EMMY Award Winning Journalist
Jan Fox's 4 EMMY AWARDS attest to her stellar 30 year career in local network news. But don’t ask her where she went to Journalism School. The only woman role model on TV when Jan was a kid, was I LOVE LUCY.
- She likes to say she came from a poor house in Shelbyville, Indiana, all the way to the White House and Hollywood interviewing many celebrities and US Presidents – a life she never could have imagined.
- Jan earned 3 Emmys at WUSA TV9 in Washington, DC: Best Investigative Reporting, Best Feature Story, and the coveted Station Community Service EMMY for her work on child car seat checks.
- At the NBC station in Portland, ME, Jan helped bring the ratings from number 2 to number 1, with an unheard of 51% market share.
- In Boston at ABC, she hosted the EMMY award winning talk show – Sunday Open House. Her “Sibilant S” start was less than stellar. You’ll have to hear the story.
- Jan has been a sought-after “conversation starter” – her word for “speaker”, facilitator, and emcee for more than 40 years, engaging hundreds of audiences and thousands of people. She loved the thrill of blowing the whistle to welcome a crowd of 16,000 to the Circus in Boston Garden.
- She equally loves watching what she calls a “shoe drooler” stand up and speak with confidence. As a Speaker Coach, Jan has turned many struggling speakers into superstars at the podium. The results are immediate.
- No matter the size of the audience, Jan watches for the light bulbs to go off, the heads to nod, the signs that show lives, they are a changin’.
- Several national insurance companies vie for Jan to conduct their Employee Assistance Training Programs. She’s trained at Verizon, The Defense Logistics Agency, The CIA, The Senate Dirksen Building, Well Point, Anthem.
- Her proprietary “Stellar Speaking – Powerful Presenting” program has helped law groups, PR firms, Women’s Groups, Chambers of Commerce, Conferences, and other businesses raise the level of their communications and increase the confidence of their employees.
- TV is a far cry from her first jobs – sweeping out her uncle’s shoe repair and taking over her brother’s paper route, both in the 3rd grade! She has been a teacher and an associate professor.
- She holds a Masters Degree in Education from Lesley University, where she eventually directed the Outreach Program and taught graduate education courses to teachers.
